The Creative Life of Fay Chan – Budgeting123

Each month I want to shine a spotlight on how business owners incorporate their creativity across all aspects of their life, and give some ‘behind the scenes’ insight into how they started and plan for their business.

This month I’d like to introduce you to The Creative Life of Fay Chan.

Fay runs Budgeting123 as a Financial Readiness and Budgeting Coach. Fay helps individuals and families to plan their household savings and spending goals. The foundation of her work is based on awareness and responsibility –  knowing where your money goes and where it doesn’t go!

So what has all of this number stuff got to do with creativity? And no, it has nothing to do with creative accounting :-).

I really enjoyed talking to Fay because she links numbers, money and creativity with being spiritual, empowered and on purpose. I was also in awe of the importance that Fay places on being aligned and grounded in relation to her creativity and how she works. Her creative practices may appear simple, but they are consistent with what research is discovering about the creative process*, and are helping Fay achieve consistent and great results for her business and clients.

So please read Fay’s candid and inspiring interview to find out, amongst other things, about:

  • the chore that she started in primary school that built the foundations for her current business
  • the turning point that made Fay re-evaluate her childhood beliefs and give up her corporate job to take a leap of faith towards where she is now
  • how Fay models self-awareness in juggling work and being a Mum to her pre-schooler
  • what washing dishes and other mundane chores have to do with fostering Fay’s creativity

Mandala Inspiration – The Magic of Possibility

Welcome to this week’s Mandala Inspiration called “The Magic of Possibility”.

This week I decided again to start drawing a mandala without a clear plan for this week’s theme. This is what emerged. It’s far from perfect – lopsided really :-), but I’m still happy with it overall. It expresses an inner core that is in the process of moving and expanding outwards.

How it all started – and the power of a picture

Yesterday I received an email from a friend who had been to a personal development course where they did some collage. Nicely enough it made her think of me :-). She was so blown away by the experience. Collage gave her the opportunity to work on some tricky issues in a pictorial way and be able to express something that language couldn’t.

And this is why I love what I do.

It might be fun and differentbut the real reason that I love collage, drawing, and LEGO is that it bypasses your language and logical brain to tap into your subconscious and more expansive, intuitive thinking to answer whatever issue or question you need to solve.

It helps you see something from a totally different point of view, and opens up so many more possible solutions and approaches than if you took a ‘1 + 1 =’ linear approach.

The passion that I heard from my friend reverberated through my mind. It took me down memory lane back to my first experience in using drawing as a thinking tool.

Mandala Inspiration – Finding Your Way

Welcome to this week’s Mandala Inspiration called “Finding Your Way”.

This week I had a few ideas for prompts to use to create a mandala but none of them felt right. So instead I decided to draw whatever mandala came up. At first I felt a bit lost and uncertain about where it was going to go. So I just sat with it and let the mandala gradually emerge. As I finished it I received a very clear and simple message, which I used to title this mandala.
