Do you ever wonder why doing the thing that you most want to do is fraught with obstacles or inner resistance?

The other week I listened to Oprah’s interview with Steven Pressfield (on the Super Soul Conversions Podcast –these videos give a taste of their conversation). It reminded me of some basic truths about resistance and procrastination:
- We experience resistance whenever we want to do anything that moves us to another, higher level. As Oprah summarised, “You can’t have the dream without the shadow.”
- Resistance is an equal and opposite force to the amount of importance we place on an activity. As Steven says, “The more important an activity is to your soul’s evolution, the more resistance you will feel to it.”
- To overcome resistance, you need to show up and do the work. Steven says to “Put your a** where your heart wants to be.” And I love Steven Pressfield’s test of whether he’s done a good day’s work. He asks himself at the end of the day, “‘Did I overcome resistance today?’ And if I did, then that’s a day.”
I kept seeing or hearing about Steven Pressfield, resistance and procrastination, so I got inspired into action.
This last week (in Feb 2019) I have posted a different tip each day on my social media platforms to overcome resistance and procrastination. You might have seen them already.
